Mtg Staff Contact/Dept.: Jerry Smith/Police Staff Phone No: 726-3729 Estimated Time: 05 Minutes S P R I N G F I E L D C I T Y C O U N C I L Council Goals: Mandate ITEM TITLE: POLICE PLANNING TASK FORCE APPLICATION REVEW AND APPOINTMENT ACTION REQUESTED: Review applications and make appointments to the Police Planning Task Force ISSUE STATEMENT: The Police Planning Task Force has one At-Large position available from the resignation of Stacey Doll. One other At-Large position is open with an eligible re- appointment candidate, and the School District is naming a new representative. ATTACHMENTS: Attachment 1- Police Planning Task Force Charge and Roster Attachment 2 – Candidate Applications DISCUSSION/ FINANCIAL IMPACT: Pat Mahoney has applied for re-appointment to the Task Force and is eligible for a second term. James Crist has resigned from his position as the School District representative and will be replaced by Chris Reiersgaard. The Task Force received two applications for the remaining At-Large position. One of the applicants does not live within the City Limits and is therefore not eligible. The remaining applicant is Fred Simmons, who has served on the Task Force previously as the Council Liaison and as an At-Large member. A subcommittee consisting of Councilor Marilee Woodrow, Dave Jacobson, Wendy Polen and Jack Martin recommend the appointments of Pat Mahoney (for a second term) and Fred Simmons to At-Large positions, and Chris Reiersgaard as the School District Representative. September 1, 2011 Police Planning Task Force CHARGE It is the duty of the task force to provide citizen input regarding police policy matters and implementation of the Council adopted Long Range Strategic Plan for Police Services to the Chief of Police. The task force meets not less than quarterly and is required to provide the City Council with an annual report of its activities.
