Dear Mr. Darnielle:
I
Thank you for keeping the record opeh for written comments regarding this
application's hearing. I would like to add this written statement to my verbal
testimony of April 28, 2004.
I was reminded after the hearing that a great many of the homes in the vicinity of
the quarry do not have the traditional ~olid concrete foundations. Of the 243
existing dwellings, 140 of them are m~nufactured homes. Of these,
approximately 28 are set upon adjustable jack stands while the majority are
resting on stacked concrete blocks shimmed with wooden wedges for stability.
To the best of my knowledge, only on~ of these homes has any sort of seismic
bracing. I
Accordingly, it is my feeling that the m'ajority of the homes here are more
susceptible to seismic shock than traditional site-built dwellings with their solid
foundations.
