RE: Springfield-Eugene Emergency Veterinary Clinic
.....,:.
- ...aj)
Dear Mr. A$burr;:
At a recent Board of Appeals meeting, Dr. Martha DeWees requested a variance from the City Sign Code
in relation to the height of their proposed freestanding sign to be placed at the Springfield-Eugene
Emergency Veterinary Clinic located at 103 West Q Street, Springfield, Oregon. Because of the
uniqueness of the business and the property, the Board approved the variance request to extend the height
of their freestanding identification sign.
During the staff investigation of this request, a call was made to your office regarding the possibility of the
placement of a directional sign (identification) to the business on a State Highway sign. At that time, staff
was informed that the criteria for the placement of an identification sign on State Highway signs prevents
the emergency veterinary clinic from qualifying for placement.
Due to the unique business type, and being the only emergency veterinary clinic in the metropolitan area,
we feel that it is important for citizens to be able to locate the clinic in emergency situations. This letter is
written to you on behalf of Dr. DeWees to consider the placement of an identification sign on the State
Highway at the two nearest exits to their business.
We have enclosed a site plan of the property currently known as 103 West Q Street, along with the minutes
from our meeting held on April 22, 1996 for your information. If we may answer any questions, or if the
City staff may assist you, please phone Lisa Hopper at 726-3790.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
Butch Baird
