Dear Mr. Harsh,
At your request the Building Division of the City of Springfield made an
occupancy inspection on April 14, 1978 at the building located at 215
"Q" Street. Due to a proposed change in the use of the buil ding from a
skating rink to a dance hall prompted your request for the inspection.
The occupancy classification of a skating rink and a danc~ ,hall are the
same, A~2.1 Uniform Building Code. The available square footage per
occupant will change. The Uniform Building Code permits one person for
every seven square feet of open area on a dance floor.
As presently designed the open area for dancing is approximately 17,848
square feet. Which would permit 2,550 people. It was indicated that a
raised platform has been proposed in this area. The square footage used
for a platform will reduce the permitted occupant load as stated above.
The Springfield Zoning Ordinance requires one parking space for every
one'twndred square feet of building. Careful consideration should be
given to provide adequate parking facilities.
Should any changes, alterations, additions or remodeling be done,
applicable permits must be obtained before work starts all work must be
accomplished in accordance with the Codes and inspected before a Certificate
of Occupancy will be issued.
Please direct inquiries to the Springfield Building Division, at 726-3753.
