Dear Mr. Dreiling:
This letter summarizes recent site grading activities and.fill placement observed at Lot 3
at Westwind Subdivision in Springfield. Some previous site grading had been
completed by others at this portion of the site. The recent work included extending the
existing fill :!:15 feet to the west and slightly to the north, The fillwas keyed into the toe
of the existing slope :!:1 to 2 feet and was' benched into the slope as the work
progressed. The fill material was placed and compacted in loose lifts typically less than
12 inches thick. The fill material varied from silty gravel to cobble sized rock fragments
to sandy clay. We noted that the fill was compacted at near optimum moisture content
using a pad foot roller. Portions of the fill material required scarification of the surface
several times to attain the required moisture levels. We observed proof rolling of the
compacted surface at regular intervals throughout the work. We typically noted
negligible deflection during the proof roll. Areas of excessive deflection were identified
during the proof roll and subsequently scarified, aerated, recompacted and re-evaluated
until a stable sUrface was achieved.

Based on our observations and understanding of the planned foundation construction,
we believe that the site is adequate for residential development using an allowable
bearing pressure of 1,500 psf or less. It has been a pleasure assisting you with this
