Comments Spoke by telephone with metal building engineer (Ronald Bennett) regarding gaps between plates
at some bolt locations previously inspected. Although during our inspection all bolts appeared to be installed to
snug tight condition based on the full effort of the erector, the engineer stated that the gaps should be shimmed
and provided a dctail for such shimming (drawing SD821, no author, date, or seal). Alternately, the plates must
be drawn together by increased tightening effort. At that point (the snug-tight condition with plates in firm
contact at bolt locations), the additional turn-of-the-nut pre-tensioning shall occur.
To the best of my knowledge, work inspected above was in accordance with the building department approved
plans, specifications, and applicable workm nship provisions of the controlling building code.
