HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 11-07 03/07/2011. ~' x ,, RESOLUTION 11-~ 7 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF -THE SPRINGFIELD MAIN STREET (OR 126) SAFETY STUDY WHEREAS, the Springfield Main Street (OR 126) corridor has been a focal point of safety concerns for many years; and WHEREAS, there is particular public concern for pedestrian safety between 20th Street and 73rd Street because of the continued occurrence of pedestrian collisions; and WHEREAS, in April 2010, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), the City of Springfield, and Lane Transit District (LTD) organized a Study Advisory Group which undertook a safety study for OR 126 (Main Street) from 20th Street to 73rd Street in Springfield; and WHEREAS, this safety study was performed with the primary emphasis on providing safe pedestrian crossings at unsignalized locations; and WHEREAS, the safety study evaluated pedestrian safety issues and recommended solutions to create safer pedestrian crossings; and WHEREAS, the safety study recommendations were based on technical analysis that included data collection, analysis of existing conditions, identification of priority locations, and analysis of improvement alternatives and strategies; and WHEREAS, the safety study recommendations were also based on information and testimony received from the public through a public open house and the Study Advisory Group; and WHEREAS, the Council has reviewed and considered the safety study, its underlying technical and factual information and the recommendations contained therein. NOW, THEREFORE, BASED ON THE FOREGOING RECITALS, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SPRINGFIELD, that the Council endorses the implementation of the recommendations in the safety study by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT); and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City thanks ODOT and LTD for proactive participation in this effort to address pedestrian safety between 20th Street and 73rd Street in Springfield; and ,~.-~: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution shall take effect upon adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor. Adopted by the Common Council of the City of Springfield, Oregon, by a vote of 6 for and 0 against, this 7th day of March , 2011.
