Re: Work required to bring building structure into compliance with State. of Oregon One and
Two Family Dwelling Specialty Code for addition to house constructed without permit.
The City of Springfield Building Official has stated that he will accept the added portions of the
structure (those parts constructed without permitting) based on an engineer's report which
certifies compliance with the building code, and a recorded document ate sting to the
. circumstances, following the format included in attachment "A" following this report.
After our initial site inspection, we determined that the following work was required:
1. A beam was required to be inserted through the gable end of the, addition to support
the roof framing above, and correct an over-span condition. A detail of this was
provided. .
2. The roofing over the addition required up-grading to meet Code tequirements. We
recommended a single-ply modified bitumen ("torch-down") as supplied by a licensed
roofing contractor, meeting Code requirements for class B roofing: ( A single-ply PVC,
also meeting Code requirements, was installed). '.
3. Concrete pier footings were required under bearing walls as indicated by a detail by
Branch Engineering. . '
4. Electrical wiring in the attic spaces required proper attachment and electrical service
equipment and splice boxes needed covers attached.
5. Plumbing vent pipes required a positive slope toward the sewer to avoid trapping
condensate or rainwater.
The above work was completed and inspected l;Jy Branch Engineering. '. Plumbing and
electrical work was completed by licensed tradesman and their reports are attached. Based
