Our History
1940
William Reed's firewood delivery and household
moving business began in 1940 with the help of his
son Alvin and their wives Flay and Dorothy. Reed's
Fuel Company had two trucks, and after a year gave
up the household moving business to concentrate
strictly on firewood hauling. In 1942 another truck
was added and in 1946 one of the five trucks was
converted to haul fuel oil.

1950
In 1951 the fuel oil portion of the business was sold,
and in 1952 two pieces of equipment were converted
into lumber trucks. As people began heating their
homes with sawdust, equipment was updated to meet
the customer needs. In 1956 two lumber trailers were
purchased to haul more lumber products and by 1959
mobile radios were added to our trucks.
1960
The 1960's brought enonnous change. Reed's Fuel
Company incorporated in 1960, purchased 5 acres of
prime industrial land, and built a truck shop.
Construction of a new freeway forced a second move
to Commercial Avenue, where we built another new
shop. Although founder Wmam Reed passed away in
1962, his family kept the business running strong,
and in 1968 a second corporation - Reed's Trucking
Inc. - was formed by Alvin and Dorothy's son, Gary
Reed.
1970
By 1970 Reed's Fuel and Trucking was hauling
sawdust, hogged fuel, chips, presto logs, lumber,
veneer and plywood with a combined fleet of 46
power units and 31 trailers. Adjacent to our shop an
office building was constructed in 1974.
1980
Alvin Reed semi~retired in 1980 and Gary Reed
became President. In 1982, Reed's Fuel Company
obtained the extension to their Common Carrier
Authority to carry pulp, paper, lumber and other
related wood products between points in seven states.

Diversification was becoming vitally important in the
trucking industry, so in 1984, Reed's Fuel Company
purchased a General Commodities Authority and
began to do business as Reed's Fuel & !rucking. This
name change helped to identify that we are primarily
a trucking business.
In 1988, Jason Reed, fourth generation of the Reed
family, joined the company after college graduation.
1990
Reed's Fuel & Trucking begins hauling wood by-
products and general commodities throughout
Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, and Montana. We
realize OUf success depends on continuing to attract
the finest, most dedicated employees in the trucking
industry. It is this company's intent that OUf
adaptable, growth-oriented attitude will continue to
meet with your complete satisfaction.
