Subject: Fire damage at 540 Flamingo, Springfield, Oregon
Dear Mr. & Mrs Zadoff:
At the request of the Springfield Fire and Life Safety Department, the Building
Safety Division recently conducted an inspection of the fire damage at the above
address. The inspection revealed damage which must be corrected in order for
the building to comply with applicable City codes. Potentially hazardous condi-
tions now exist, due to the fire, which preclude the affected areas from continu-
ing to be occupied.
The following items must be corrected before the building can be reoccupied:
Structural
1. The attached shop was damaged to the extent that the structure is hazard-
ous, and must be provided with temporary structural support, and be
adequately secured to prevent potential injury to inquisitive children. As an
alternative to temporary support, the remaining shop structure may be razed
to the ground. In either case, steps should be taken immediately to reduce
the existing hazard,
2. The east two-thirds of the roof structure has been sufficiently damaged to
require replacement of the structure, including sheathing and roof covering,
3. Ceiling joists over the east half of the living room must be reinforced with
additional joists or replaced.
4. Wall and ceiling coverings throughout the structure were sufficiently
damaged by the fire and water to warrant total ,'eplacement.
5. The subfloor at the front corner of the living room must be replaced where
damaged.
6. Siding and ceiling covering at the porch and siding outside the living room,
kitchen and the den require replacement.
