CASTILE Robert
Chan Commercial Site Plan - Case DRC2009-00017
Rick:
Staff have reviewed the revised site plans for the multi-tenant commercial building at 1815 Main Street and, because
the proposed fill depth is above the footing level for the perimeter concrete wall, it will have to be engineered. Robert
Castile examined the revised plans and still has concerns about the depth of fill (up to 14 inches) placed against the wall
without evidence of required structural engineering. Staff maintain that due to the proposed fill depth the wall will have
to be engineered. To address this concern, a cross-sectional detail will be required with engineer stamp confirming the
structural integrity ofthe stem wall.
It appears there still may be miscommunication regarding the proposed fill placement, depth, and requirement for
engineering of the concrete wall. I would encourage you to contact Robert Castile directly by email or by phone at 726-
3666 to confirm the Building Division's requirements for meeting the conditions of approval. Reducing the fill depth to
the level of the footing (ie. about 6 inches depth) would satisfy the concerns. Otherwise, as noted in previous
discussions and in the land use decision for this development, supplementary information and supporting structural
engineering analyses will be required. Please let me know if you have any questions.
