HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 10-56 09/20/2010RESOLUTION NO. 10-56 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SPRINGFIELD EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR A PROPOSAL BY THE NEIGHBORHOOD ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO IMPLEMENT THE NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION' S MAIN STREET FOUR-POINT APPROACH® IN ORDER TO HELP REVITALIZE DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD. WHEREAS, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has developed a program called Main Street Four-Point Approach®; and WHEREAS, the State of Oregon Main Street Program Office encourages cities to consider using Main Street Four-Point Approach® as a tool to help revitalize downtowns; and WHEREAS, the Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation (NEDCO) has championed meetings with downtown businesses and community leaders to consider the merits of implementing Main Street Four-Point Approach® to help revitalize downtown Springfield; and WHEREAS, these meetings have generated considerable interest in implementing Main Street Four-Point Approach® to help revitalize downtown Springfield; and WHEREAS, the Common Council met with NEDCO in a Work Session on September 13.,.2010 and learned that NEDCO has offered to provide leadership implementing Main Street Four-Point Approach® to help revitalize downtown Springfield with no immediate out-of-pocket cost to the City; and WHEREAS, the Common Council finds that considerable public benefit can result from implementation of Main Street Four-Point Approach® as proposed by NEDCO. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; that the Common Council of the ~~ ; City of Springfield hereby declares its intention as follows: Section 1; The Common Council of the City of Springfield expresses its support for implementation of Main Street Four-Point Approach® as proposed by NEDCO.
