HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 14 Correspondence from Craig Enberg, Springfield, Oregon Regarding the Simpson's Contest Dear City Council, I wrote a letter to the Springfield Bulletin stating my concerns with the frivolity and grasping quality of our official effort to become the "real Springfield" as far as the television publicists of the Simpsons are concerned. I have one other serious problem with the campaign which I want to communicate to you rather than the general public. Whose idea was it to paint "EI Barto" on the statue as though the graffiti was that of a Mexican gang member? Are we not aware of the volatile nature of race relations here and throughout our country at this time? Even while giving ourselves up to the euphoria of pursuing dollars, it is a good idea not to throw our thinking caps away in a burst of whoopee. As always, I thank you for your public ,service and do not intend this a personal attack on any of you, since I hold you all in high regard. And to end on something positive, thanks for your vote on the liquor license for the Main Street bar. It is already obvious your concern has done something to improve the sidewalk scene at that location.
