To Steve Hopkins,
As per our conversation on Thursday 4/15/1 0 conceming the six (6) trees at the taco-
bell/.lalisco's site, [have addressed the concems we discussed which include location of
trees to bio-swale, damaging the root system of the trees, the interference of the bio-
swale, and the underground power line.
I) The base of the trees range trom 0-9 inches away fi-om the property line of which can
be seen on pg. two (2) is the outside edge of the swale. The south side of tree root system
of the trees runs under the existing side walk which is located parallel to the row oftrees,
also under the asphalt and probably under the building.
2) With a bio-swale 32 inches deep and excavation 36 inches deep this will destroy the
roots right up to the base of the trees.
3) I have included a picture of the power line locate which I ordered on 4/15/1 O.As you
can see the line runs under/through root system and parallel to all trees. This power line
feeds the ship mall. [fthe power line was to need repair the complexity would be high
due the massive root system below.
4) I have included a note from superior tree service stating the damage to trees ifroot
system was deleted to create the bio-swale for our new and improved Taco Bell.
5) I believe that you would agree that with a new bio-swale and cut off roots that sucker
roots and lots of debris from the trees would interfere with function of the swale and the
asphalt of the drive thru lane in time to come.
6) As can be seen on the civil plans for the taco bell site, there are several utilities
existing and passing near the tree root system. As these utilities are removed or modified
damage to roots is inevitable.
