I will not be able to make it to the pre-submittal meeting on Tuesday, January 5th due to our monthly meeting of the local chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IMI). Since I am the Vice President (missed the elections meeting) I kind of have to be there! I have attached my comments for this meeting. You will note that a second fire hydrant is required. Although this was previously discussed via e-mail to you dated April 15, 2009, it appears that none of the options to avoid the requirement for a second fire hydrant were taken. The building is 5,137 sq. ft., non-sprinklered Type V-B construction (unprotected light weight wood) with apparently no fire walls. Based on 2007 Springfield Fire Code Appendix Table B105.1, the required fire flow is 2,000 gallons per minute. Table C105.1 requires two fire hydrants. One fire hydrant is already in place on Marcola Road within the 400 foot maximum distance to the furthest point away from the fire hydrant as required by SFC 508.5.1. Another fire hydrant needs to be provided within that distance to meet Table C105.1 requirements. I have also added the usual 80,000 lb. imposed load requirement: Have a great day! Gilbert R. Provide a second fire hydrant within 400 feet of the farthest point of the building away from the fire hydrant per 2007 Springfield Fire Code 508.5.i, SFC Appendix Table BI05.1 and Table CI05.1. B.
