What was the department like 20 years ago? · It was much smaller; we didn't seem to be as rushed as we are now. · We were one big family; we still are, however, we are not as connected to the line personnel as we use to be. · We use to have our family Christmas parties and everyone attended. Due to the workloads of everyone at work and home it is hard to find anyone to help put them on, so we haven't had one for about 5 years. You really felt the "family" feeling at these get-togethers. 3. What are the most significant changes the employee has experienced? · We have had a few reorganizations over the years, this last one was the hardest, being told that there is no more "EMS". I always thought that EMS was the hub of the department. I have always been so proud to say that I am the "EMS Secretary" and then "EMS Program Tech." · Losing and regaining Eugene in the FireMed program has been a large impact on all of us. 4. What are some humorous things that have happened at work? · One of the funniest things was a time when Dixie got her new pager and had to leave the office and stated that "I now have my pager, just page me if you need me." She hadn't been gone for more than a few minutes and there was an urgent need to page her, so I called her pager and put in 3737, which is our main line number. She never called in so I kept paging her, she returned to the office and I asked her if she had gotten her page and she said that all she got was someone with the name of LELE (7373) paging her, this was so funny, I then turned her pager around and it read 3737. I still laugh about that. 5. Any significant or special events that bring back memories? · Sharing becoming a grandmother with my co-workers has been one of the most special events, also now I am going to become a "great" grandmother in July and now sharing this phase of my life also with my co-workers. Following information supplied by Cheryl: · When I first started in Fire I was hired part time in the FireMed program, not knowing if it would become a successful prog ral1l , I worked the mornings from 8-noon and changed into a Bob's Hamburger uniform and reported to work at Bob's hamburgers, I took this second job to enable me to work for the city until they knew if my position would become full time. With the success of FireMed it became full time in less than a year. · I love my job, I have been very blessed with this job, I still come to work and bow my head a say "Thank you for this job". I cannot believe that I get paid to do what I do; the paycheck is a bonus to the job.
