RE: Electrical Safety Inspection at 1441 Main Street, Springfield, Oregon
Dear Sir:
At the request of the Springfield Fire Department an Electrical Safety Inspection was
performed by the Springfield Building Safety Division on July 9, 1984 at the above
referenced address. At that time the following unsafe and hazardous conditions were
found to exist that do not meet the minimum requirements of the Springfield Electrical
Specialty Safety Code:
1. The use of extension cords is hazardous and is not approved for use as permanent
wiring. Install outlets, supplied from' existing raceway system adjacent to cord
connected equipment including suspended lighting fixtures. Extension cords can
cause fires.
2. Install approved cord and cap connections to suspended lighting fixtures. Proper
grounding increases safety.
3. Install wall switch control for lavatory light. The existing control is not very
safe to use, damages fixture and is not per Code.
4. Properly reconnect electric furnace. Wiring to be protected from damage and se- .
cured per code (flex o.k.).
5. Replace missing or damaged switch and outlet or junction box covers and install
knock out seals. Open holes can allow electrical sparks or molten metal to escape
and cause fire. Open wiring and contacts are shock hazards.
6. Remove abandoned wiring in water heater closet and properly wire water heater, if
it is intended to be used.
NOTE: The apparent use of the building requires that a metalic or non-metalic raceway
system be used for the protection of wiring. Repair and maintenance would eliminate
some of the above hazards.
The Building Safety Division will check on the progress in 30 days from the date of this
letter. Please direct all inquiries to the Springfield Building Safety Division at 726-
3753.
Sincerely,
/81, Md/~
