I received a call from Richard Goft who runs the Springfield Scientific business at 2600
Main Street. His telephone number is 726-9176. 1'\ ~~ '1

He would like you to know that this is the 4th or 5th time he has experienced the same
problems with our department. He continuously receives letters from our department
indicating that he is not in compliance with our code and then later because there is not
code pertaining the letter, we withdraw our complaint of him.

Just recently he's experienced problems with letters he's received in regards to storing
flammable materials outside of his building. Evidently Tom went out there and referred
him to Loren Pleger. Loren Pleger referred him to the Planning Department who said he
needed to get a change of use and ultimately a public hearing concerning the matter.
About 4 years ago the same problem happened when he wanted to store chemicals in
containers.
Again a problem came up when he received a letter about a year ago asking him to vacate
the premises because there was a zoning problem,
He indicated that Attorney Jack Levy from across the street in Thorp's office indicated to
him that he knows the people here and that we were just jerking him around and that he
would represent him because they do too much business with the city.
He indicated that Fire personnel also indicated that they get their orders to come out from
someone higher up than them and that they don't like playing politics either and said that
someone here told them to harass him.
I TOLD HIM THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL lllM BACK TODAY
CONCERNING THESE ISSUES. I INDICATED THAT IF YOU DIDN'T CALL lllM
BACK DIRECTL Y, THAT YOU WOULD PROBABLY DIRECT A DIVISION
MANAGER CONTACT HIM.
HE WILL BE AT WORK UNTIL 6:00 TODAY.
