. Dear Mr. Arin:
At your request the City Building Division and Fire Prevention Bureau inspected the
vacant lease space at 2144 Main Street to determine its suitability for Jour antique
refinishing business. .
As this inspection was being performed, a few items were found which shall be cor-
rected by the building owner prior to allowing any future tenant use of the lease space.
I shall list these items separately as follows:
1. The flexible conduit to the water heater shall be repaired to conform with the
minimum safety requirements of the State Electrical Safety Specialty Code
(E.S.C:) Sections 336-5 & 336-6.
2. Extension rings shall be installed at all switch or outlet boxes where the box
is not flush with the surface of the combustible finish (E.S.C. 370~10).
3. The existing bathtub installation, previously used for washing animals. does
not comply with the minimum requirements of the State Plumbing Specialty Code
(P.S.C.), and shall either be removed or corrected. Coordinate this requirement
with the City Plumbing Inspector.
The following additional items are required for the lease space to meet minimum safety
requirements for your proposed antique refinishing business:
1. Disposal of the caustic solution from the finish stripping tank shall be performed
as directed in the attached memorandum from Ed Black, Environmental Affairs
Supervisor. Questions regarding this procedure should be directed to Mr. Black
at 726-3689.
See also the enclosed pamphlet on Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment supplied by
the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission.
2. Spray finishing shall be performed in a spray booth or spraying room approved for
such use. See the attached excerpt from Section 45 of the Uniform Fire Code
for specific requirements regarding such booth or room.
