RE: 1999 Main St.. SDrinafield - ~tructural Damaae
As you requested, I have made an inspection of this building to
determine the extent of damage due to vehicle impact at the southeast
corner adjacent to the street and alley. I also have discussed with
you and received information with regard to the proposed methods of
repair by your firm and the masonry sub-contractor. Based on my
observation and the information received, it is my conclusion that
your proposed repair methods will correct the structural damage due to
the vehicle impact. These repairs methods are as follows:
a. The existing roof construction and damaged portion of the
wall have been temporarily shored up with timber shoring.
This shoring appears to be adequate.
b. The damaged portions of the concrete block south and east
walls should be removed. This would include removal of the
concrete block along the east wall from the southeast corner
to the door opening and along the south wall from
approximately two feet from the southeast corner on a
stepped diagonal at each course, which is approximately 45
degrees to the top of the wall.
c. There is an existing 16" deep concrete beam in the 8"
concrete block wall at the east wall which is to remain and
be shored during the removal and re-supported by the new
concrete block wall.
d. The block walls in the removed areas are to be replaced with
eight inch standard concrete block units. The concrete
block is to be reinforced with a bond beam at maximum four
ft. intervals and at the top of the new construction. Bond
beams shall that contain two #4 reinforcing bars. Vertical
reinforcing to be #4 at fpur ft. maximum spacing, three #4's
at the corner and one at the side of the door opening.
Reinforced voids are to be grouted as .well as complete
groutinq of the south wall from the stepped courses into the

portion of the wall remaining so that this is a solid
grouted section of wall.
e. The masonry construction is to be in, accordance with
applicable code requirements.
I hope you find this report adequate for your purposes at this time.
Please contact me if you have further questions. Thank you for this
opportunity to be of service.
Very truly yours,
Emile Mortier, P.E.
