RE: 'Fire Damage Inspection at 1747 Main Street, Springfield, Oregon

Dear Mr. Tanton:
Due to a recent fire at the above referenced location, the Springfield Building Safety
Division conducted an inspection to determine the damage and/or potential hazards re-
sulting from the fire. The inspection revealed the following:
1. The electrical wiring in the attic area was sever1y damaged by heat and will re-
quire repair andlor replacement. All wire, outlets, switches, etc. in unit #27
will need to be replaced.
2. Roof sheathing over unit #27 was damaged sufficiently to warrant replacement.
Replace the sheathing with properly graded material bearing a panel identifica-
tion index stamp for the 24" rafter spacing.
3. Rafters and ceiling joists were charred by the fire reducing their capacity to
support the imposed loads.
A. Replace rafters having less than 1 3/8" effective width of undamaged material
at any point in the rafter (estimate approximately 9 rafters).
B. Replace or reinforce ceiling joists having 1 1/4" or less effective width
of undamaged material at any point in the joist. Repair may be made by adding
1 x 6 dry doug1as fir material to the side of the joists for the full length
between bearing points and nailed with 8d nails at 12" centers (staggered
top and bottom).

4. The porch structures of both units' #27 and 26 were charred to a degree warrant-
ing replacement of several structural members. Charred rafters, braces, sheath-
ing, etc. shall be replaced.
5. Replace roofing that was damaged by the fire.
Permits for the above listed structural and electrical repairs are required. Oregon
State law specifies that all electrical work done on property that is for sale, lease
or rent, must be done by a properly licensed electrical contractor. Required permits
