Davis 1118 South 34th Place, Springfield, Oregon 97477 RE: Occupancy In~pection at 3505 Main Street, Springfield, Oregon Dear Mr. Davis: At your request the Springfield Building Division conducted an Occupancy Inspection of the structure located at the above referenced address. The use 'of the lower portion of the structure as a minor repair garage will categorize that ,usage as a B-1 Occupancy. The following items shall be installed, repaired or replaced in order to conform to the applicable codes for that occupancy. STATE STRUCTURAL SPECIALTY CODE AND FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY CODE (S,S.C.) 1) A two-hour fire resistive floor-ceiling assembly shall be provided for horizontal separation of the two different occupancies. The ceiling separation shall provide a continuous fire resistive membrane but may have openings for copper, non-metallic or ferrous plumbing pipes, ducts, and electrical outlet boxes, provided the areas .of such openings through the ceiling aggregate not more than 100 square inches for any 100 square feet of ceiling area. . A. Individual electrical outlet boxes shall be of steel and not greater than 16 square inches in area. B. All duct openings ,in ,such ceilings shall be protected by approved fire dampers. C. Non-metallic pipes that penetrate the surface of the ceiling assembly shall be encased in a rigid ferrous metal tube extending at least 18 inches from the sur- face. The encasing tube shall be draft stopped by packing with non-combustible insulating material. . S.S.C. Table 5-B and Section 4303. . 2) The exi~ting ceiling ventilation chase shall be sufficiently opened for inspection to verify that firestopping exists so that the maximum dimension of any concealed space, excluding the chase, is not over 10 feet in any direction. Mr. Harold Davis Occupancy Inspection 3505 Main Street June 21, 1983 Page 2. 3) The bathroom exhaust fan shall be vented to the outside and at the point of dis- charge be a minimum of 5 feet from any openable window. S.S.C. 705 I , OREGON STATE PLill1BING SPECIALTY CODE (P.S.C.) 1) The water heaters serving the two living units shall be provided with pressure relief valve drain lines piped to the exterior of the building terminating within 18 inches of the ground. P.S.C. 1007 /' OREGON ELECTRICAL SPECIALTY SAFETY CODE (E.S.S.C.) 1) The E.S.S.C. designates requirements for electrical equipment and wiring for locations where fire or explosion hazards may exist. Locations are classified' depending on the properties of flammable vapors, liquids or gases that may be present in diversified occupancies. A garage, used for service and repair op- erations in connection with self-propelled vehicles is classified as a Class I, Division II location. In this classification, the wiring shall be enclosed in a metallic raceway system. E.S.S.C. 501-4 and 336-3(c) 2) All junction and outlet boxes shall be provided with covers or faceplates. E.S.S.C. 370-15 Permits shall be obtained and all required inspections conducted before a Certificate of Occupancy will be given.
