SPRINGFIELD JOB NO. 860405
BOARD OF APPEALS REQUEST DATED 4 AUGUST,
'*
1986
Dave:
The Owner has requested that we withdraw our Board of Appeals
request on the above project.
The Owner has elected the following options to proceed, and
we request your approval.
1. No work will be done to the existing 9440 s.f. Kapco
warehouse to alter its fire protection, type, use,
etc.
2. The Owner elects to install a 2-hour fire resistive
area separation wall between the existing and new
structures.
a) This conforms to your note 2-B of Plan Review/
Correction List (enclosed).
b) Areas on each side of separation wall would be
less than 16000 sq. ft.
* Existing building is 14,400 sq; ft.
* Addition is 9,440 sq. ft.
c) The 2-hour area separation wall would consist
of the following:
Two hour fire wall: Gypsum Association Manual
(11th edition) assembly # WP 1548, 2 layers of
5/8" type "x" gypsum board each side (4 layers
total) of 2 ft" metal studs 24" o.c.; base layer
applied with 1" screws 24" o.c.; finish layer
applied with 1 5/8" screws 12" o.c.; stagger
vertical and horizontal joints 24"; tape and
plaster joints, plaster screw heads. The wall
must extend from the floor to the roof. No
parapet is required.

d) All doors in wall to be I! hour UL listed.
Openings to consist of:
* One 3'0" x 7'0" HM door and frame.
* One 12'0" x 12'0" roll-up drum type
door with fuseable link closer.
3. The addition to the warehouse (North of area separation
wall) will have a I-hour wall on the West side.
a) Plans as submitted.
b) l-hour required less than 20r (Type V-N or less
than 40' (T~pe III-N).
c) The addition will be considered Type III-N, with
a total allowable size of 18,000 sq. ft. See
discussion per Nolte.
d) With the area separation option, the northerly
addition will have two yards which will provide
an area increase of 50% or an ultimate of 12,000
s.f. for type V-N or 18,000 s.f. for type III-N
construction. The V-N structure must have a
one hour fire resistive west wall if less than
20' from the property line (10' proposed) so
you may as well proceed with a type III-N struc-
ture which requires the one hour west wall any-
way (one hour less than 40' to p/l). This will
result in the maximum 18,000 s.f. ultimate floor
area or a future expansion of 8560 s.f. above
the currently proposed 9440 s.f. warehouse
addition.
