HomeMy WebLinkAboutMiscellaneous Correspondence 1982-1-15 ~ - SPRINGFIELD CITY OF SPRINGFIELD Department of Public Works January 15, 1982 CERTIFIED LETTER / White Horse Tavern 4350 Main Street Springfield, Oregon Dear Sign Ol'mer: RE: Sign at 4350 MaiiF, Street, Springfield, Oregon '* 97477 In the planning stages for three years, the Springfield Sign Ordinance is a product of the combined efforts of a special sign subcommittee formed by the Planning Commis- sion, representatives of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Springfield'Com- mittee for Citizen Involvement. A number of public hearings also occured for further citizen input. Then, in January 1991" the Springfield City Council adopted the new Sign Ordinance. Section 9-7-22 (.3) of the Sign Ordinance requires specific violations to be corrected , by the sign o~~er or lessor within one year of the date of its adoption. Rotating or moving signs, signs with blinking or flashing lights, banners, flags, posters, pennants, ribbons, streamers', signs which are located too close to cverhead power lines or con- ductors, and off-premise signs (advertising a business or activity not conducted on the premises where the sign is located) are among the signs made non-conforming by the new Sign Ordinance. As a result of the recent City-wide sign survey, the following violation ,was found on your property relative to the one year compliance time l:L-nit: A blinking sign adverti'sing "Millers" is located at the above referenced address. By February 15, 1982 , the above referenced violaticn of the Springfield Sign Ordinance must be corrected. Because the sign survey was completed in July of 1981, it is possible you have already taken steps to correct or have completed correcting this violation. The Building Board of Appeals is empowered to hear and grant 'variances to the Sign Ordinance, provided a ;~itten appeal is su~itted to the Superintendent of Building within 10 days of the date of receipt of this letter. The Board of Appeals may grant a variance with regard to the unusual size, shape, or dimension of a site or because of existing structures thereon in relation to a sign or its placement. The Board of Appeals may NOT grant a variance based on economic hardship.
