RE: Response to comments per landscape @ Enterprise Site
Mike: I was away unexpectedly last week and unable to promptly reply to your email.solapologize f6r the delay in
responding.
I'
Thank you for replying to the site inspection comments. Please note thalthe comments were observa'tions and not
intended as disparaging remarks about the competency of the landscaping contractor. I hope that my::comments were
not taken out of context. The objective is to ensure that staff observations made during the site visit are communicated
to the site owner and project team fo~ their reference and further action, as necessary. Some issues, such as
landscaping and site grading, may not become evident until after a growing season. Some plant mortality and
replacement is to be expected, and is usually covered under a private contract between the 'property ilwner and
landscaping contractor. As noted in the comments, the, observations did not delay building occupancy, nor was a follow-
up inspection required. ~1:: 11'1c..IV~e

Regarding the placement of the maple tree, if it has been relocated already this is fine. Otherwise, your
, .
recommendation to move it to the east of the drive is acceptable and staff will make notation of this a,djustment on the
site plan. I
Finally, please note it is standard practice of the CitY of Springfield to require plant tags to remain on all nursery stock
,
until the final site inspection is complete. Usually, the final inspection.is scheduled shortly after the plant materials have
been installed (and prior to the business opening to the public). This allows staff to confirm that the planted materials
correspond with the species and quantities listed on the approved landscaping plan. After the final inspection is
'I
complete and satisfactory, the tags can be removed. I hope this will be helpful in your future commercial landscaping
contracts in Springfield.
If you have any questions, please contact me by email or call 726-3784 (direct).
Sincerely,
,
Andy Umbird

"
I was forwarded your final site comments from Mcintyre Construction this morning, and subsequently
tried to call you, to find that you are gone till the twelve of the month. ."
Follows are respons,es to your items of concern:
(1) Debris in catch basins. We are one of many contractors th.at were on the site. W~ did go ahead

and clean out the parking lot catch basins 6/5/09.
(2) The western planting bed that you claim has no soil is baseless. Both topsoil and compost were
placed per the specs to accommodate the plants and all was top-dressed with 3" of bark upon
completion. I really resent your inference that we don't know what we are doing.
(3) As far as the missing tree in the southwest corner was a site decision . based on the fact that a
cedar exists on the corner of the lot within 8 feet of where the new tree was to be installed. We felt
that it would have been 'irresponsible' to install the "October Gory' Red maple il1 this restricted space,
so moved it to the east of the drive. (Please note that there are four here rather than the original
three.) I will move the tree into this location, however would like the owners know that it is not
advisable in my mind.
As far as leaving tags on plantings, it is standard procedure for Woodruff's to remove tags upon
completion and I have never been asked to leave tags on for an inspection. We are growers and
provide most of the trees and shrubs that we install. We very seldom tag plant materials and feel it is
unprofessional to leave tags on.
Please let me know if you have any problems with my comments. I would entertain another site visit
if it would help resolve any issues.
Respectfully.
