RE:5094 Main Street, Springfield, Oregon
Dear Sign (Amer:
Having been in the making for three years, the Springfield Sign Ordinance is a product
of the combined efforts of a special sign subcommittee fo~ed by the Planning Cor.~is-
sion, representatives of the Springfield Chamber of Coomerce, and the Springfield Com-
mittee for Citizen Involvement. A number of public hearings also occured for further
citizen input. Then, as of January 1981, the Springfield City Council adopted the new
Sign Ordinance.
Section 9-7-21(4) of the Sign Ordinance requires specific violations to be corrected
by the sign owner or lessor when signs are potentially hazardous. Signs which have
electrical violations must be corrected by 30 days from.the date of this notice.
As n result of a recent City-.~de sign survey, the following violation was found on
your property relative to the one year compliance time limit:
Remove the open wiring to the pole sign. Install conduit as the
wiring method. Oregon Electrical Safety Specialty Code #600-2lla).
Unless you are both the owner of the building and operator of the business, all elec-
trical corrections must be performed by a licensed electrical contractor.
The Building Board of Appeals is empowered to hear and grant variances to the Sign
Ordinance, provided a written appeal is submitted to the Superintendent of Building
within 10 days of the date of receipt of this letter. The Board of Appeals may
grant a variance with regard to the unusual size, shape, or dimension of a site or
because of existing structures thereon in relation to n sign or its placement. The
Board of Appeals may NOT grant a variance based on economic hardship.
