SUBJECT: ABANDONED HOUSE AT 4675 MAIN STREET, SPRINGFIELD, OREGON
~..
Dear Mr. Ehli:
'I'm writing with regard to the abandoned house located at the above referenced address.
It is our understanding that you are the contract holder of this property for the
buyer, Staff Jennings. The house is a potentially dangerous building, being accessible
to the public. (The Fire Department has already dealt with one fire in the house).
Section 401 of the Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings as adopted by
the City of Springfield allows the City Building Official to declare a building dangerous
and thereby cause the building to be repaired or demolished.
The Springfield Fire Department would like to use the abandoned house for a supervised
burn for training purposes. Staff Jennings nas agreed to the burn as indicated by the
attached copy of the "permit to burn" contract. We would also like to have your sig-
nature, since you still have an interest in the property, Two copies of the "permit
to burn" contract are enclosed. Please read and sign both copies, send one copy to
the Springfield Fire Department, attention Floyd Scott, 225 North 5th Street, Spring-
field, Oregon 97477, and keep one copy for your files.
In summary, I must stress the importance of eliminating the potential hazard the house
creates. If the house may not be burned by the Fire Department, the Building Division
may require it to be repaired or demolished. At the very least, it will have to be
. ,"boarded up" and made inaccessible. .
Your anticipated courtesy and cooperation in this matter is appreciated.
