'" . ~ Rl':: W.O./1101l-003 On January 7, 1982 I made an inspection of the fire damaged area of this building to determine the extent of structural damage caused by the fire. 1. The fire was concentrated in the ceiling/roof framing above the tOilet/ furnace room and stock area resulting in structural damage to the ceiling joists, roof rafters and roof deck in the immediate fire area. 2. One bow string truss was subject to fire exposure to the 'extent where its continued structural capacity is in question. The char on the various chords and web members is from a depth of less than 1/16-inch to less than 1/4-inch. 3. Two adjacent bow string trusses were subject to some fire exposure resulting in very slit;ht char on portions of some members. The only repair to these t.TO trusses would be the retightening of all bolted connections in the fire exposed area. 4. The fire damaged ceiling jOists/roof rafters and roof deck which show extensive char should be removed and replaced. This area is concentrated, mainly in the two spa)ls between the lJow string trusses noted in ,t.< & 3.' 5. The one bow string truss which sustained the fire damage indicated in #2 should be scraped down to the base wood on charred members and exposed for inspection by removal of all adjacent construction including the ceiling joist support ledgers on the bottom chord. After this is done, I should be notified to make an additional inspection at which time I will determine the appropriate repair method to restore the truss to original load carrying , capacity. I intend that this repair method will involve the following procedures: a) Retightening of all bolted connections. b) Installation of additional bolts where necessary. c Page - 1 - - RE::- 442') Main st. - spr.ield. OR . 1/8/82 c) ,Scabbing on of additional wood or steel members on chords or web members to replace thc charred area with proper attachment and ' connections. d) Installation of proper truss bracing. At the time of the subsequent inspection, I will make specific recommendations for the truss rel'air and ini tiate proper reports, calculation:> and details to perform the repair for submi;sion to you, the Springfield Building Department and other concerned parties. I hope this report is satisfactory for your purposes at this time. Please contact me if you ha.ve further questions. . Thank you for this opportunity to be of service. Very truly yours, Emile Mortier, P.E. EC!i1/da cc: City of Springfield, Building Department Page - 2 -
