Dear Sign Owner:
In the planning stages for three years, the Springfield Sign Ordinance is a product
of the combined efforts of a special sign subcommittee formed by the Planning Commis-
sion, representatives of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Springfield Com-
mittee for Citizen Involverr.ent. 'A number of public hearings also occured for further
citizen input. Then, in January 1981, the Springfield City Council adopted the new
Sign Ordinance.
, Section 9-7-22 (.3) of the Sign Ordinance requires specific violations to be correct,:d
by the sign o~~er or lessor within one year of the date of its adoption. PDtating or
moving signs, s'igns with blinking or flashing lights, banners, flags, posters, pennants,
ribbons, streamers', signs which are located too close to overhead power lines or con-,
ductors, and off-premise signs (advertising a business or activity not conducted on the
premises where the sign is lcoated) are among the signs made non-conforming by the new
Sign Ordinance.
"
As a result of the recent City-wide ,sign survey, the following violation ~as found on
your property relative to the one year compliance time lL~it:
Penants are being ,used for advertising purposes.
By March 24, 1982 .. the above referenced violation of the Springfield Sign
Ordinance must be corrected. Because the sign survey was completed in July of 1981, it
is possible you have already taken steps to correct or have completed correcting this
violation. ,If this is the case, please contact this office as soon as possible.
