RE: Permit status for construction of addition/remodel to existing building
Dear Mike:
I am writing to clarify the City Building Divisions position relative to the
permits for construction of the remodel/additon to Springfield VFW Post 3965.
June 21 of this year we issued a permit for the construction of a structural
shell for a 2440 square foot addition to the existing facility to be built by
McKenzie Valley Construction. This permit does not include authorization to
proceed with plumbing, electrical or mechanical work associated with this
project. Today we received a request to final the work being done by the
contractor, McKenzie Valley Construction. Since the work the contractor has
been authorized to perform does not include plumbing, electrical or mechanical
work, we are in a position where our approval of the framing is subject to
approval of rough inspections for plumbing, electrical and mechanical work which
will be performed by someone else. The general contractor in this case cannot
be held accountable for alteration to the framing by other subcontractors if
the work they are performing is not a part of his contract. Given the
circumstances at hand, it appears that the VFW as owners are responsible for
any subsequent work which will be performed.
. Our Structural Inspector, Don Moore has been instructed to to inspect the work
completed by McKenzie Valley Construction and then place a STOP WORK order on
the job. No additional permits will be issued or further inspections performed
until appropriate drawings have been submitted, reviewed and approved for
additional work including plumbing, electrical and mechanical'systems for the
proposed addition/remodel project.
The plumbing permit which was issued to your plumbing subcontractor was for
underslab work which has been completed, and is not valid for any further work.
The electrical permit which was issued to your electrical subcontractor was for
relocation of your electrical service which has been completed and is not valid
for any further work. The mechanical permit which was issued to your mechanical
subcontractor was for relocation of the gas meter and associated gas piping and
for extension of ductwork serving two existing exhaust fans, and is not valid
for any further work.
