Subject: Lateral Loads on Precast Concrete Parapets at Link Roof
Kirk,
As discussed previously, the slab on metal deck at the roof of the link between the hospital an~ the OHVI was apparently
not reinforced for the moments due to lateral forces (wind and seismic) applied to the slab on metal deck at the
connections at the base of the precast concrete parapets, Therefore, the support of the parapets is inadequate for these.
code-specified lateral forces, The risk associated with delaying providing the parapet support 'framing shown in CCD-430
is unknown, since it can not be estimated when the code-specified lateral forces, or lateral forces that are less than the
1
code-specified forces but still greater than the capacity of the slab on metal to resist, might oc~ur, Given that the current,
',I condition does not meet the requirements of the building code, it is our opinion that the the repair should not be delayed,
,
