Dear Beau:
Per your request, Artisan Engineering has reviewed the garage roof framing at .the
residence located at 446 North 35th Street, in Springfield, Oregon. The:existing framing
consists of pitched Fink trusses, spaced at 24-inches on center, with 2 x 4 top chords,
bottom chords, and web members. .
We understand that you intend to support a new air handler for the residence on the
bottom chord of the roof trusses in the garage, and that you need to rec6rifigure the web
member layout to accommodate ducting and access to the air handler. Our comments are
as follows. ..
1. Install (1) 2 x 6 Douglas-Fir/Larch #2 or better to each side of the ,bottom chord of
each truss that supports the air handler and fasten with Simp.son SDSY-" x 3 Y:('
screws at 12-inches on center, staggered on either side of the truss. . Extend the
new members to within 6-iriches of the existing walls.
2. Remove affected web members and replace them with vertical web members that
extend full-height from the bottom chord to the top chord. Attach with mending
plates.
