Subject: Fire damage at 2287 Marcola Road Springfield, Oregon

Dear Owner:
At the request of the Springfield Fire and Life Safety Department, the Building
Safety Division recently conducted an inspection of the fire damage at the above
address. The inspection revealed damage which must be corrected in order for
the building to comply with applicable City codes. The following items must be
repaired or replaced:
Structural
1. Glass was broken from the bedroom window. The Structural Specialty Code
requires that replacement glass for windows in heated areas must be double
insulated, or they must be insulated by storm windows which are rated with
a thermal transmission factor not greater than .07.

,2. Soffit material under the eave at the window where the fire occurred was
burned to a degree warranting replacement.
3. Ceiling material in the east bedroom, west bedroom and hallway was
damaged by the fire and water to a degree warranting replacement.
4. Wall material in the east bedroom was damaged by the fire and water to a
degree warranting replacement.
Electrical
5. Wiring to all electrical devices in the bedroom where the fire occurred was
subjected to temperatures greater than it was designed to withstand. The
insulation on this wiring was damaged, necessitating replacement of the
wiring between each fixture and the wiring source.
6. The wiring to the hall light fixture must be checked for possible damage
which may require replacement.
Please note that installation and repair of electrical systems on property which
is intended for lease, sale or rent must be done by an electrical contractor who

Permits will be required for items #3,4,5&6, or any 'additional modifications you
may desire which involve, changes or additions to the structural, electrical,
mechanical or plumbing systems. Required permits may be obtained from this
office.
