The site plans sent out are reproduced in a small format for ease of mailing so it may be difficult to determine the extent of impact. I can advise you that the proposal is for removing 17 trees on the west side of Gateway Street generally between Roadhouse Grill and the Umpqua Bank. About 16 trees are to be removed from' inside the Mall parking lot. All of the trees are on private property (Gateway Mall). The development plans for the new transit station propose to repla~t about 61 new trees to replace the ones being removed. I'm not sure if these are the trees you referred to in your statement below, but you are welcome to 'view the plans if .you are concerned about the potential effects on the ' neighborhood. Please be aware there are no plans to remove trees elsewhere along Gateway Street, particularly on the east side behipd the Driftwood Villa Condos. You can contact me by email or call 726-3784 if you want more information on this proposal. The trees along Gateway Street are good things we in the concrete jungle have and hold dear. I strongly urge a 'truly one of the few I have lived in the, Driftwood Villa Condos for over 10 years and my family and I have grown up with these trees. I, recently in springtime, had a group of visitors stay a week at my home, and they were awestruck by the beauty of these trees. They photographed themselves in front of them for their memory books. J I understand that LTD needs a new bus stop, but why not locate it on the 1-5 side of the Gateway Mall? And leave the li~tle beauty my hood has alone. Please. In the immortal words of Joni Mitchell, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.~' Please try to, plan around this prophecy. Sincerely, Joel K.
