Dear Mr. And Mrs. Dolby,
Thank you for allowing Greg Ferschweiler and myself to visit your property and inspect
the trees you propose to cut. As we discussed on the property that day, it appears that
the construction of the Springfield Utility Board sub-station has made the trees on your
property much more vulnerable to wind-throw damage, as evidenced by downed trees
and damaged standing trees in and around your buildings. Upon investigation of the
situation, Norm, Greg and myself agreed that all the dead trees could be removed and
the living trees marked with paint on the west side of the driveway could also be
removed. These living trees have been stressed by the wind and stand alone and
unprotected from future winds. The living trees on the east side of the driveway,
however, are part of an older established stand of trees that do not directly threaten
buildings and, if they remain, would act as "point trees' against the wind for the trees to
the east. As we all agreed on the site, these trees could remain and not pose a threat to
life or property. Therefore, all dead trees marked with paint and those living trees
marked with paint on west side of the driveway may be removed as hazardous trees
without any permits from the City of Springfield.
Thank you for your patience and consideration in this matter.
