5. GENERAL INFORMATION FOR INSTALLATIONS
We consider that the Solahart 300LJ solar hot water
system is the most technically advanced thermo-
syphon solar water heater available, designed to
incorporate a sealed water circuit lor the solar
collectors, separate Irom the mains water stored in
the tank.
This development enables higher perlormance solar
collectors to be coupled to the solar hot water system,
and also eliminates concern about collector corrosion
in areas with poor quality water supplies.
In areas subject to Ireezing temperatures, this closed
collector circuit must be filled with a special long-
lile Solahart 'HARTGARD' solution to provide the
ideal method ollrost prevention, without the need
lor electrical energy Input or special control valves.
The Solahart 300LJ solar hot water system should be
installed in accordance with all local codes and
authority requirements.

7. INSTALLATION DIRECTLY ONTO A SLOPING ROOF
(WITH PITCH/SLOPE)
WOOD SHAKE, SHINGLE OR
COMPOSITION ROOFS
Select a suitable section 01 rool area approximately
2,5 M x 2.5 M square and approximately 600 mm Irom
the rool ridge in a shade Iree area.
Check in detail that the area selected is capable 01
supporting the weight 01 the installed Solahart system.
Carry out any necessary additional support as
required by standard engineering calculations.
Lay out lour lenglhs 012,450 mm long 50 mm x 100 mm
exterior construction grade wood and locate lour rool
trusses or support members beneath the rool
covering. Fix the wood runners to them, running
with the slope 01 the rool. and using 12 olf 8 mm
diameter x 150 mm long lag bolts, Alternatively, 12
olf suitably sized J bolls can be used in place 01 the
lags. (See Diagram No.2)
Insure that the 3 lag bolts or J bolts on each wood
runner are securely located in or around the trusses
or support members by checking in the ceiling space
belore and alter drilling, Insure that sulficient water-
prooling compound is injected in and around any
penetrations in the rooling material. The water-
prooling compound and its application should be such
that ABSOLUTELY NO WATER LEAKS through the
rool will occur. The waterprooling should be capable
01 remaining intact through normal contraction and
expansion 01 the rool structure and covering. It should
be a 10ng-liIe type. Insure that the lour woodrunners-- .
lollow the slope 01 the rool and do not run acrosS
the slope of the rool, are parallel and in line by
measuring outer timbers'corner.to-corner. ,The ,~, "'"
purpose 01 the wood runners is to provide a stable
and level base on which to mount the Solahart system.
It will also allow Iree flow 01 rain water down the rool
slope and prevent damming against the high side 01
the tank., ,_.,.
Locate the collector support extrusion (PN,0829)
along the lower ends 01 the 50 mm x 100 mm wood
runners. (Flat side 01 upstand lacing the collectors.)
Fix the collector support extrusion in place with lour
8 mm diameter x 40 mm lag bolts. Insure the location
is level.,
Install the 2 solar collectors in place, resting the
lower part 01 both collectors onto the collector
e'xtrusion with the wood runners supporting the
collectors,
Check and insure that each collector is lilled with
rubber 0 rings (PN,0171). (One spare 0 ring is
provided in each Solahart Small Parts Kit.)
Join both collectors with collector unions (PN.0694)
applying medium pressure with spanner. Check
collector overhang beyond the collector extrusion
is approximately 220 mm each side lor asthetic
appearance,
Fit the copper blanking disc (PN.0605) and brass
collector nut (PN.0601) into the top right hand corner
01 the right hand collector. Fit the collector liII
assembly (PN.1617) and collector nut (PN.0601) Into
the lower lell hand corner 01 the lell hand collector.
Fit the collector hot pipe (PN.0710) to the top left hand
corner 01 the lell hand collector. Fit the collector down
pipe (PN.0703) to the lower right hand corner 01
the right hand collector.
Fix the collectors in place by allaching the collector
clamps (PN,0843l to the collector extrusion as per
the exploded view Diagram No. 1. Permanently lix
the clamps in place with sell-tapping screws.
position the storage tank on the rool above the
collectors, lining up the connection pipes. Fit the
connecting pipes to the storage tank, insuring each
connection is lilled with a rubber 0 ring.
With the tank located in position and the closed circuit
pipe connections made, lit the lour aluminum tank
clamps (PN.0874) along the rear loot or support
moulding 01 the tenk base (see Diagram No.3).
Insure the tank is level and not pushing onto the
collectors or pipework. Fix the tank by securing the
lour tank clamps to the wood runners with 8 mm
diameter x 40 mm long lag bolts.
Fit the pressure temperature reliel valve (Ul0l)
Into the tank as per the exploded view Diagram No.1.

Thoroughly inspect the entire'installation,to.insure..-
that it is rigidly Ii xed down, all pipe connections are
tightened, the tank and collectors are level and that
adequatewaterproofing and sealing 01 all penetrations.. -..-
has been carried oul.
Once this inspection has been carried out REMOVE
THE TRANSPARENT PLASTIC COVER FROM THE
TANK BODY AND FIX IN PLACE THE SELF-
ADHESIVE "SOLAHARF LOGO :rO,THE :rOP ,LEFT
HAND CORNER OF THE TANK.
WARNING: II plastic cover is lell on the tank and
exposed to the sun lor a lew days it will bake onto the
aluminum and be impossible to remove.
