Hi Lisa,
My name is Rick Sterling and I am the stepfather and authorized renresentative of Nathan
Schiele who has a couple of open permits fw;,2h7'2iDt:J)~';~e. He just notified me that the
Building Safety Division sent him a notice ofpenoing'exjJiration letter for COM2008-00700,
stating an expiration date of Ian 2,2009. This permit is for a residential free standing patio cover
and we have not a'S'yet requested our first inspection. Understandably, per ORSC RIOS.3.2 Time
limitation of application, the permit is about to expire. However, this section also gives the
building official the latitude to grant a 180 day extension when a '1ustifiable cause [is]
deIIjonstrated. "
Soon after.COM2008-00700 was issued, I discovered dry-rot within several different areas of
two ~xterior walls in my: stepson's residence. In order to prevent any further damage and
facilitatcthe repair of the walls, I had to postpone work on the patio cover. Nate and I pulled
anotheripe,rmit, this time for structural siding, and after spending over $12,000 to replace siding
and windows, both our weather window and our patio cover budget was spent.

We do have the post holes for the patio cover nearly ready for inspection, but we are not ready to
, resume work right now. We would like to wait until the weather warms up a little and, most
importantly, replenish some of our cash reserves. It was not our intention to let the work
permitted under COM2008-00700 languish, nor was it our intention to let the permit expire. We
do humbly ask that the permit be extended another 180 days, with the understanding that an
inspection will be requested sometime in the early spring. It is our intention to complete (and get
a final inspection) the patio cover project this summer.
