The purpose of this site visit was to assess the condition and quality of the rockery wall along the south side of the driveway and to determine if it met the requirements of our previously en'gineered sketches, In particular, the City of Springfield is requiring that an Engineer sign-off on the retaining wall because it is an important to the front entry portion of the residence, The rockery retains soil that- underlies 'the individual strips footings under the front entry that you had poured back in July. During the site visit I met with the Contractor who was placing the rocks with a Bobcat Excavator. Each course was being placed on a layer of compacted crushed rock that was vibrated around the rocks with a flat plate vibrator. "' noted that the height of the wall was less than I had expected based on my July site visit. The Contractor described the reason for the decrease in height was primarily due to the fact that crushed rock had been deposited on the entire driveway and compacted with a vibratory roller. In addition, the rockery wall was placed slightly northward from the original excavation line that was my greatest concern for the footings back in July, The result was that there is no slope within 3 feet from the footings and the rockery has actually provided a base for backfill that ensures the footings will not be undermined, In conclusion, I found no problems and have no concerns about the structural stability ofthe rockery wall or the footings for the entry behind thewall, The rockery and foundation for the residence being built at 6621 Forrest Ridge Drive in the,Mountain Gate area of east Springfield has been completed in a professional and workmanlike manner. The fooiings are being on a firm base and I have no concerns for slope stability, expansive soil, or site drainage. We have enjoyed assisting you with this foundation verification.
