COM200.6-00115 6263/6265 Aster St.,Springfield, Oregon PURPOSE AND SCOPE As requested, we have inspected the foundation pad excavated for the subject project. K & A Engineering, inc. . has previously provided geotechnici:lI recommendations for development of this project site.' The purpose of . our inspection was to determine if the foundation pad has been prepared to adequately support foundation loads of the proposed 2-story duplex. The scope of our services for this inspection included several visual inspections during site development and this report. . . SITE INSPECTIONS Buttress Retaining Walls .' We inspected the site during construction of the buttress retaining walis (designed by K & A Engineering, inc. and provided with our suppiemental recommendations dated October 18,2006). Two terraced retaining walis, consisting of segmental masonry facing with geogrid-reinforced mechanicaliy stabilized earth backfili, were constructed to our specifications for materials and methods. The subgrade for these walis was prepared according to our recommendations and consisted of dense basalt silty-graveliy coliuvium and bedrock. Foundation Pad. . . . . . . . The foundation pad located.below the retaining walis, adjacent to the street right-of-way, consists of two benches cut into the native dense basalt coiluvial silty-sandy-graveliycoliuvium. 'A thin lift (approXimately 3 to 4-ihchesof :y.,-inch minus dense-graded crushed aggregate was placed on the undisturbed coliuviai subgrade, SUMMARY. AND RECOMMENDATIONS Based on our site inspections, itis our opinion that the site has been adequately prepared according to our recommendations and will.provide suitable support for the proposed foundation system. K & A Engii1eering,'lnc. We recommend acceptance of the foundation pad and buttress retaining wall system, as constructed, by the local building official. Please note that it is vital that the perimeter foundatioridrainage' system be constructed according to our original recommendations.
