Faundatian Sails
PURPOSE AND SCOPE.'.
At yaur request; K & A Engineering, Inc has campleted a geatechnicallnvestigatian af the existing sails an the
subject property. Our understanding is that a waad-framed single-family residence supparted by a cast-in-
place can crete spread faating faundatian is propased far canstructian an this site. '
The purpase af aur investigaiian was to determine the suitability af the sails far canstructian af the propased .
structure, and provide recammendatians far canstructian af the faundation. The scape af aur selVices is limited
to. general suitability with respect to. bearing capacity and expansive sails,

FOUNDATION PAD PREPARATION
The praject site is lacated an aresidentiallat an the east side af 58th Street in the new" Jasper Meadaws'
subdivisian. The site was previausly used to. stackpile unsuitablesubgrade sails stripped during the
canstructian af nearby residences, The stackpile has recently been remaved from the building lat. The site is
mastly level a~d there are no. apparent slape mavement hazards, .
Faundatian preparatian invo.lved canstructing a level faundation pad on native undisturbed so.ils. This required
excavating and removing appraximately 1 to 2-feet.of dark brown, wet, arganic silt, and 3 to. 9-inches af gray, '
wet. maderately stiff, plastic silt with raotS. The resutting subgrade primarilycansisted of tan, maist.
maderately stiff decamposed sandstane, After the excavatian and remaval at the unsuitable subgrade sails,
approximately 6 to. 12-inches af 1 'I2-inch minus dense graded crushed aggregate was placed and campacted
in the faundatian pad area, This selVed to. provide a uniform surface for foating canstruction. The liil materials
were placed, graded, and then campacted using a vibratory steel drum roller.
We tested the in-place density of the crushed aggregate fill and have determined that the average dry density
exceeds 95% of maximum as determined by ASTM 0698 The fieid test results are attached to. this report,

SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The project site, as prepared, is suitable to support the proposed foundations. We recommend a design
allowable bearing capacity of 2,500-pounds per square foot.
The soils present a moderate shrin~swell hazard, Foundation loads should bear on undisturbed native si~s a
minimum depth of 24-inches below final grade around the perimeter foundation The prepared foundation pad,
meets these recommendations,
Final grading around the foundation pad should raise the grade above the foundation using native or imported
si~s and should slope away from the foundation.
We recommend approval of the foundation pad, as constructed, by the building official.
Thank you for the opportunity to be (jf service, Please call us ij you have questions or need further assistance,
Respectfully,
