(JJ] 5. ~p:t/I Project: 151.06 Hayden Enterprises, Inc. 2464 SW Glacier Drive #110 Redmond, OR 97756 Subject: Jasper Meadows SUbdivision--Lot199 Springfield, OR Foundation Soils PURPOSE AND SCOPE At your request, K & A Engineering, Inc. has completed a geotechnicai investigation of the existing soils on the subject property Our understanding is that a wood-framed single-family residence supported by a cast-in- place concrete spread footing foundation is proposed for construction on this site. The purpose of our investigation was to determine the suftability of the soils for construction of the proposed structure, and provide recommendations for construction of the foundation. The scope of our services is limited to general suitability with respect to bearing capacity and expansive soils~ FOUNDATION PAD PREPARATION The project site is located on a residential 101 on the east side ot S~ 57'" Place in the new' Jasper Meadows" subdivision. The lot is level and there are no apparent slope movement hazards. The lot has recently been used as a stockpile location for unsuitable soils excavated during the construction of nearby foundation pads. Based on a test pft excavated in the center of the lot, native soils consist of approximately 14 to 24.inches of dark brown, wet, loose, organic sill, over 18to 24-inches of black, saturated, moderately stiff, decomposing organic sill with a strong decomposition odor, over gray/orange, wet, moderately stiff, moderately plastic . decomposed sandstone~ Foundation preparation involved constructing a level foundation pad on suitable native undisturbed soils. The stockpile of unsuitable soil for use as foundation support or structural fill was first removed from the site and hauled away. Then, approximately 2.5 to 3.5-feet of loose organic and decomposing silt was removed from the foundaUOn pad area. After the excavation and removal of these soils, approximately 6 to 8.inches Y<-inch minus dense graded crushed aggregate was placed and compacted over 2 to 3-feet of 8-inch minus "pit run" fill. This served to provide a unrrorm surface for footing construction, The fill materials were compacted using a Vibratory steel drum roller, We tested the in-place density of the crushed aggregate fill and have detemnined that the average dry density is greater than 95-percent of maximum as determined by ASTM 0698. The field test results are attached to this report. M"', 1 I. LVVO q:V/rm No, 2428 P. 3/7 .' K & A Engineering, Inc. SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS The project site, as prepared, is suitable to support the proposed foundations. We recommend a design allowable bearing capacity of 2,500-pounds per square foot. The soils present a moderate shiink/swell hazard Foundation loads should bear on undisturbed native silts a minimum depth of 30-inches below final grade around the perimeter foundation. The prepared foundation pad meets these requirements, ' Final grading around the foundation pad should raise the grade above the foundation using native or imported silts and shouid slope away from the foundation. We recommend approval of the foundation pad, as constructed, by the building official. Thank you for the opportunity to be of service~ Please call us if you have questions or need further assistance.
