HomeMy WebLinkAboutCorrespondence PLANNER 5/28/2002 MEMORANDUM City of Springfield To: Sarah Summers From: Chuck Gottfried May 28, 2002 SUB Drinking Water Protection Plan Date: Subject: Sarah- I spoke with Ed Black and Susie Smith regarding their concerns over the DWPP, Their comments addressed insuring that the City of Springfield is recognized as a stakeholder in the drinking water protection process. Their concerns are twofold: .,.' .....,. L Development of the Plan included minimal involvement of City staff, even though the City is mentioned as having certain responsibilities under the plan, This concerns staff, since there are significant efforts underway, such as the Mill Race restoration, and development in the Jasper/Natron area, which may be impacted by the plan, It's imperative that the City be a party to any plan development with such far-reaching impacts. Coordination and communication regarding the development of this type of plan is important to its effective implementation. 2, The Springfield Mill Race is a contributor to the City~s water supply, and is potentially impacted by the Plan, The City is a landholder of properties adjoining the Springfield Mill Race, and in fact, owns significant portions of the actual waterway. Accordingly, the City's interests are at stake in any plan which may impact that waterway, as this plan does. In summary, please note that these comments address the importance of the City being recognized as an active partner and recognized stakeholder in the development this and similar future plans. Thanks for the opportunity to comment. , RECEIVED ,9,- 2- g/QL- By: CDYrez,P~
