ARTS WEEK
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the presence of the visual and performing arts in
the community stimulates a healthier and richer environment for all
residents; andin which the investment into the arts creates a positive
ripple affect, fostering new development and promoting economic
growth; and
WHEREAS, families benefit when creative expression is
nurtured and children are encouraged to explore creative activities that
develop skills, build confidence and foster a sense of accomplishment
through education, exhibits, and performances; and
WHEREAS, the CitY.of Springfield, Oregon i~ dedicated to
supporting and nurturing the arts for its residence, in an effort to .
strengthen and build communities, to enhance the quality of life, and to
promote social vitality through creativity and artistic expression.
NOW, THEREFORE, BElT RESOLVED that I, Sidney W. Leiken,
Mayor of Springfield, call upon the citizens of Springfield to join me in
honoring and supporting the visual and performing arts for our community
and our children and do hereby proclaim May 20-27, 2007 as Arts Week.
