Council met in Work Session in the Jesse Maine Room, 225 Fifth Street, Springfield, Oregon, on Tuesday, January 21, 1997, at 6:50 p.m., with Mayor Morris~tte presiding. ATTENDANCE' Present were Mayor Morrisette, Councilors Ballew, Beyer, Burge, Dahlquist, Maine and Shaver. Also present were City Manager Michael Kelly, Assistant City Manager Gino Grimaldi, City Attorney Joe Leahy, City Attorney Joe Trudeau, Administrative Aide Julie Wilson and members of the staff. 1. Police Planning Task Force Application Review. Chief Bill DeForrest presented the staff report on this issue. There are two existing vacancies on the Police Planning Task Force. One vacancy is for a business representative and one is for a neighborhood at-large position. Seven candidates have applied for the vacant positions on the Police Planning Task Force. Two candidates (Fisher and Brashnyk) are applying for the business representative position. The remaining five (Eikenberry, Mandeville, Wilson, Byers and Crone) are applying for the at-large neighborhood positions. The Police Planning Task Force met on January 9, 1997, and interviewed each candidate. The task force is recommending that Jeanette Brashnyk be appointed to the business representative position and Ronald Byers be appointed to the neighborhood at-large position. The task force also recommends appointment of Sean Wilson for the next available neighborhood position, either by resignation or term expiration of an existing member. The task force informed the council they were highly impressed with the quality of all candidates. By consensus, the council agreed to appoint Jeanette Brashnyk as the business representative and Ronald Byers as the neighborhood at-large position for the Police Planning Task Force. The council also agreed to appoint Sean Wilson for the next available neighborhood position, either by resignation or term expiration of an existing member. The Mayor and council received a large packet of information from N eighborhood Watch. Mr. Kelly stated that many groups may increase communication and handouts to the council because they did not want to see program cuts.
