COM2006-00115 6263/6265 Aster St., Springfield, Oregon PURPOSE AND SCOPE . As requested, we have inspected the foundation pad excavated for the subject project. K & A Engineering, Inc. has previously provided geotechnical recommendations for development of this project site.' The purp.ose of our inspection was to determine if the foundation pad has been prepared to adequately support foundation loads of the proposed 2-story duplex. The scope of our services for this inspec.tion included several visual inspections during site development and . . this report. SITE INSPECTIONS Buttress Retaining Walls. We inspected the site during construction of the buttress retaining walls (designed by K & A Engineering, Inc. . and provided with our supplemental recommendations dated October 18, 2006). Two terraced retaining walls, consisting of segmental masonry facing with geogrid-reinforced mechanically stabilized earth backfill, were constructed to our specifications.tor materials and methods. The subgrade for these walls was prepared according to our recommendations and consisted of dense basalt silty-gravelly colluvium and bedrock. Foundation Pad The foundation pad located below the retaining walls, adjacent to the street right-of-way, consists of two benches cut into the native dense basalt colluvial silty-sandy-gravelly colluvium. . A thin lift (approximately 3 to 4-ihchesof %'inch minus dense-graded crushed aggregate was placed on the undisturbed colluvial subgrade. , . , SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS . Based on our site inspections, it is our opinion that the site has been adeqoately prepared according to our recommendations arid will provide suitable support for the proposed foundation system.
