CERTIFIED LETTER
Mr. Arlen Kopperud
Zilkowski Auto Electric
200 North 39th Street
Springfield, Oregon 97477
RE: Off-Premise Signs
Dear Mr. Kopperud:
This letter will serve to amend the January, 1"982 letter sent to you fron this office
relative to the removal of off-premise signs connected with your business. As you
know, Section g-7-22 (3) of the Springfield Sign Ordinance requires off-premise signs
(signs which advertise a business or activity not conducted on the premises where such
signs are located) to be removed within one year of the date of adoption (January 1,
1981) of the Sign Ordinance. However, on l{ay 19, 1982, the Springfield Planning Com-
mission amended that section of the Sign Ordinance to extend the amortization time
limit for removal of off-premise signs to two years fron the Sign 0rdinance adoption
date; thereby correlating off-prenise sign removal with that of billboards.
Therefore, by January 1, 1983, the off-premise sign which advertises your business at
the following location must be removed:
A freestanding pole sign advertising "Zilkowski Auto Electricr' located on the
corner of 39th and l,lain Streets on Springfield Equipnentrs Droperty.
The Building Board of Appeals is empowered to hear and grant variances to the Sign
Ordinance, provided a written appeal is subrnitted to the Superintendent of Building
within 10 days of the date of receipt of this letter. The Board of Appeals nay grant
a variance with regard to the unusual size, shape, or dimension of a site or because
of existing structures thereon in relation to a sign or its placement. The Board of
Appeals nay NOT grant a variance based on economic hardship.
For more detailed information regarding Sign Ordinance compliance, please contact the
Springfield Building Division at 726-3753. Permits, if needed, m&I also be apnlied
for at the Springfield Public llorks Departrnent, 225 North Sth Street. Your anticipa-
ted cooperation is appreciated.
