HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020 01 21 RS Minutes 1 Springfield Planning Commission Minutes Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 7:00 p.m. Regular Session Library Meeting Room Planning Commissioners Present: Chair Koivula, Vice Chair Sherwood, Tim Vohs, Grace Bergen, Sophie McGinley, Andrew Landen, Kuri Gill Absent: None Staff: Sandy Belson, Planning Manager; Mark Rust, Senior Planner; Brenda Jones, Management Specialist; Kristina Kraaz, Assistant City Attorney Chair Koivula called the Regular Session of the Planning Commission to order at 7:12 pm. Pledge of Allegiance – Led by Chair Koivula. Approval of the Minutes – None Business from the Audience A Community member who lives in Glenwood spoke to the Commission about the ground his house is on, which is toxic. He reported that most of the ground that Planning Commission is working on in Glenwood is toxic as well. Parts of Glenwood were the recipients of Superfund monies to clean up the toxic soil. Despite this, the ground is still full of toxic chemicals (name and address not in the video/ hard copy files). Chair Koivula: suggested that he contact the State and the DEQ about his concerns on the toxicity of the soil in Glenwood. Regular Session Items – None Report of Council Action •Commissioner Gill reported on the City Council meeting of January 6th. Business from the Planning Commission 1)PLANNING COMMISSION CHAIR, VICE CHAIR AND COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS Planning Commission to elect Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and make committee assignments. •Commissioner McGinley was confirmed as Councilor Liaison by a unanimous vote. •Commissioner Landen was confirmed as Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee by a unanimous vote. Draft Planning Commission Minutes 2 • Commissioner Vohs was confirmed as Community Development Advisory Committee Liaison until his term ends in May 2020 by a unanimous vote. • Commissioners McGinley and Bergen were confirmed as Liaison of the Governance Committee by unanimous vote. • Commissioner Sherwood was elected Planning Commission Chair by unanimous vote. • Commissioner Gill was elected Planning Commission Vice Chair by unanimous vote. Commissioner Landen: reported on the developments of the past year in the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee. Commissioner Vohs: reported on the developments of the past year for the Community Development Advisory Committee. Business from the Development and Public Works Department. Sandy Belson / Staff: informed the Commission that she was presenting to Council an update on the Comprehensive Planning Work Program during the January 27th Work Session. The Commissioners will find more information about this in the Council packet for that week’s meeting. ADJOURNMENT – 7:49 pm
