The position is available due to the position term expiration. The vacancy was created due to expiration of the IMPACT: committee member's four-year term in May of 2023. The City received three applications for the Faith Community Representative position on the Springfield Police Advisory Committee. Applications were received from: Daniel Davidson, Jason Miller and Jason Mitchell. The Springfield Police Advisory Committee is currently a nine -member volunteer committee appointed by Council consisting of four neighborhood/citizen-at-large representatives, one School District 19 representative, one Willamalane Park and Recreation District representative, one representative of the local business community, one cultural minority community representative, and one faith community representative. Committee membership is a four-year term. The City Council decision for committee appointments is scheduled for the April 3, 2023 City Council Regular Session meeting. I have been a member of the Springfield faith community for almost my entire life. I attended a Quaker based University, and studied abroad in Northern Ireland, Scotland and France on how our faiths/beliefs can affect those around us and the communities we live in.. I have a deep respect for the men and "omen who serve our community as police officers, as well as acknowledge that a civilian advisory cotrunittee is healthy and needed. 2. What specific contribution do you hope to make? My personality is to listen first, ask questions second, and give opinion last. I hope to contribute by being thoughtful, and to "do the homework" on the issues that come before the commission. I hope that the commission I serve on assists in making our community a better place to live, and support those who serve us on the police force. As I am applying for the position of the faith -based community, I would be willing to meet with any who have concerns to make sure the full community voice is represented con the committee. 3, Briefly describe your involvement in relevant community groups and activities. I have been involved in business groups attending different chambers and greeters meetings and events in different cities throughout Lane County_ I'm currently in the Leadership hugenelSpringficld 2022 2023 cohort and am being taught all aspects of the area we live in 1'vc been a founding member of New Song Christian Fellowship for 25 years. Cve been a coach in Thurston area youth sports. I've been on the board and been the President of the Jasper Meadows 3rd & 4th Addition HOA in Springfield. 4. What community topics concern you that relate to this board / commission ; committee? Why do you want to become a member? I think Springfield has done a great job of creating a safe inviting environment for all to be a part of. I want to make sure that we continue to balance safely and keeping crime low, without being overly authoritarian in our approach i want to make sure we provide the equipment, staffing and wages we need, without putting too large of a tax burden on our community. Basically continue to keep the pendulum relatively in the center and not swinging wildly out of balance. 5. Most boards , commissions i committees meet monthly.
