ACTION Interview three applicants for the Library Advisory Board (LAB) for three open
REQUESTED: positions and decide on appointments.
ISSUE The Library Advisory Board will have three vacant positions as of December 31,
STATEMENT: 2022, due to the early resignations of Board members Barbara von Diether and
Kristine Fuller, and the expiration of Board member Clyde Miller's term on
December 31, 2022. There are three years remaining on the term vacated by Ms.
Von Diether, two years remaining on the term vacated by Ms. Fuller, and then a full
four-year term open. Five applications were received for the three openings. One
applicant was not available to interview at the designated meeting, the other
attended a Board meeting and decided the LAB was not a good fit for them.
Applications are attached.

ATT 2: Breen, Myra Application
ATT 3: Weed, Rebekah Application
ATT 4: 2022 Library Board Roster
ATT 5: Interview Schedule and Questions
DISCUSSION/ The Library Advisory Board is seeking members for three vacant seats. In April
FINANCIAL 2022, Board member Barbara von Diether resigned from the LAB. This opened a
IMPACT: position on the Board for a term ending December 31, 2025. Board member
Kristine Fuller, after serving on the Board since 2015, decided to step down this
year. This opened a term that will end December 31, 2024. Board Member Clyde
Miller's Board term will end on December 31, 2022; this will open a full-term
Board position that will end December 31, 2026. Applications for the LAB were
closed on October 17, 2022. Five applications were received during that time; three
applicants are presenting themselves for interviews. They are Susan Bogenschild,
Myra Breen, and Rebekah Weed.
The Library Advisory Board asks that the Council interview the three applicants
and appoint one person to complete the three years left on Ms. Von Diether's tenure
ending December 31, 2025, one person to complete the two year term left on Ms.
Fuller's tenure ending December 31, 2024, and one person to fill the four year term
ending December 31, 2026.

Application for a City of Springfield
Citizen Advisory Board/Commission/Committee
OREGON
Please print or type:
1. What experiences / training / qualifications do you have for this particular board / commission / committee?
My professional career (resume attached) is remarkably varied! I spent 20 years in the nonprofit fundraising field (National
Public Radio, Princeton University, and Kent State University), several years as a preschool teacher and as a special
education assistant. I have also worked in retail settings (Trader Joe's and Duluth Trading).
2. What specific contribution do you hope to make?
I hope to bring a broad perspective to the table that could enrich both library patrons and staff.
3. Briefly describe your involvement in relevant community groups and activities. (Lack of previous involvement will not
necessarily disqualify you from consideration.)
I haven't been active locally since moving to Oregon. I have been busy, until this year, caring for an elderly relative. While
living in the Nashville area I volunteered to shelve books in the Brentwood Public Library in both the children's and general
collections. While my (now adult) kids were young I chaired the PTO and created and after school program for their
elementary school (10 classes: piano, soccer, art, etc.)
4. What community topics concern you that relate to this board / commission / committee? Why do you want to become a member?
The Springfield Public Library has been a welcoming presence to me. I would like to see the library enjoy wider visibiity
and prominence in Springfield as the city continues to blossom.
5. Most boards / commissions / committees meet monthly. Subcommittees may meet more frequently. Meetings generally last one
and one-half hours. It is highly recommended you attend a meeting before submitting the application. Please read the news
release for this position which contains the normal dates and times for these meetings and can be found at
