This permit covens 90 trees that are proposed to be removed for construction ofretabong walls and embankment to cmnplete the approved prrofecl improvements. This written statement addresses the tree removal permil approval criteria ofthe Sol ingfeld 5.19-135 Criteria.'Cast from the code is italics and the responses are in plain text. SDC 5.19-135 Permit Criteria 1. Whether the condifions fthe trees with respect to disease, hasordass or unsafe coaddione danger of falling, prosimiN, to existing structures or proposed construction, or interference with tattoo, services or pedestrian or vehicular tragic safe!, warrants the proposed felling. The trees proposed to be removed are in proximity to proposed construction and need to be removed to complete required improvements related to the Woodland Ridge Subdivision approval. Trees proposed for removal have more than i0% ofthe critical mot zone (CRZ) imparted by the construction The impact to these trees would compromise the health of the trees and create an unsafe situation if they were to remain on the property. The proposed trees to be removed are located primarily on top of the edge. 2. Whether the propaseelfelling is consistent with State standards, metro plan policies and Cov ardinaares and provisions affecting the enviontact tal quality of the area, including but not heated to, the protection gfaearbv trees and windbreaks; wildlife; erosion, soil retention and stability; volume afsurface runvf% and water quality (streams; scene quality; and geological sites. The trees need to be removed to construct the improvements required by the subdivision upproval to provide much needed housing. Although the proposal is to remove 90 trees, we are proposing to install 147 trees within the development area in the following areas' Type location No. of Trees Street Trees Planter Stri us (ROW) 12S Canopy Trees South side of Detention Pond 14 tCa rge Trees Ridge -replacement 8 Total= 147 Steel trees will be placed along all streets within the development, with species being selected from the approved City of Springfield street tree list. Canopy trees along the South line of tie detention pond are being designed by Anderson Associates (Landscape Architect). These trees will have two functions; Provide shade for the water in the detention pond to reduce water tempemhues and phovidc aesthetic appeal from inside the developmenl and properties to the South. Large trees proposed to be planted on the ridge are untended to fill in gaps at the top ofihe hill for view purposes. These trees will be selected by the Landscape Architect to insure i cohesive mixture of trees visible to the public. Most of the large existing trees on die ridge are on the North (downhill side).
